"This week"? News from weeks ago. Just stop Tech Dirt.

The internet in 5 years is going to be so broken.

I can't wait. Having been online since '91-2 it needs a shakeup.

Idk, everything is already diluted with false information and algorithmic newsfeeds pinning us against each other.

What good could come from an internet where you don’t even know who you’re talking to is real?

Yeah I’m not optimistic about a “grey goo” data-slime internet.

I think we’re actually heading for a reality akin to Peter Watts “Rifters” books at this speed.

> I think we’re actually heading for a reality akin to Peter Watts “Rifters” books at this speed.

I don't know I'm ready to hand over control to a head cheese.

A more apt comparison, though, might be to Neal Stephenson's Anathem:

> “Early in the Reticulum—thousands of years ago—it became almost useless because it was cluttered with faulty, obsolete, or downright misleading information,” Sammann said.

> “Crap, you once called it,” I reminded him.

> “Yes—a technical term. So crap filtering became important. Businesses were built around it. Some of those businesses came up with a clever plan to make more money: they poisoned the well. They began to put crap on the Reticulum deliberately, forcing people to use their products to filter that crap back out. They created syndevs whose sole purpose was to spew crap into the Reticulum."

[...]

> “This I know about. You are referring to the Artificial Inanity programs of the mid–First Millennium A.R.”

The equivalent of the great oxygen event. On the other hand, without it, we wouldn't be here, would we?

Maybe people will stop spending their day fighting over bullshit online and go outside.

That was sarcasm, right?

Outcomes of shakeups are not necessarily good

(This should be a bumper sticker :)
