"Overall the US-China tech war is likely to escalate" Because the US is going to make even better technology, right? With the same open standards that allowed its technology sector to grow in the first place?

No? How about we escalate by writing blank checks to scammers and passing more sanctions to further isolate ourselves.

The more recent US hegemony in radio communications technology was held by pioneering Bell Labs work leading to patented implementation as 3G standards. I think the US rested on the laurels of those patents for too long. Microwave RF basebands were not too long ago considered advanced as alien technology. Now China has re-developed them on their own terms.

Software is trying to virtualize a left-government. But without addressing the underlying problems of ownership in the real world, every virtualization is ultimately a zero-sum game.

Exactly. You can build as equitable a software system as you want. It will still be used, misused and regulated within the context of our existing real-world power structures. Meaningful change to those structures cannot be affected with a technological solution absent a political movement.

New communication doesn't really address the contradictions in society that make electronic utopia a funny prank. Contradictions around status, identity, wealth, ideology make a bolted on electronic world a sewer of exploits.

We're already in the coined metaverse. It's pretty boring.

This is queen Victoria’s dream finally realized. We have come full circle.

I feel it too, the optimism has hit an organizational wall. I remember being worried about AOL’s take over of the internet and relieved when AOL went belly-up. I have the same worry about FANG and keep my fingers crossed that decentralization will replace them and they will go bankrupt from over-leveraging.

Employee ownership in companies has to get better. Direction has become so opaque, hidden, and now quite frankly tasteless and borderline tacky.

Why would employees want something drastically different for the company? Employees in general like to get paid.

Change the problem, keep yourself.
