I don’t think it’s just about Israel but I’m sure that’s part of it.

We know it's just about Israel because prior to the Gaza genocide these things were not getting checked.

Other things happened since then too

I guess US society is too weak to withstand those who might have critiques of it.

The rewards aren’t necessarily monetary.

I'd wager that those non-monetary rewards are not what drive any decisions in the Netflix C-suite.

fair. i guess i was thinking more about the creative types.

I… actually like this idea. Similar to the Robinson Patman Act.

capitalism is our natural environment. like the air we breathe. how can you punish it?

Can't you see the billionaires sprouting in the Spring? Didn't you know they spread their delicate flowers just like Jasmine has for millions of years?

- When you say “a country” this vetting may not in fact be what the majority of citizens want.

- I suspect there is racism and xenophobia behind this

- What kind of weak-ass people cannot tolerate dissenting opinions from visitors?

The People elected the current executive to represent them.

You are free to suspect anything you want - that doesn't make it true.

Americans are tired of their country being abused.

> The People elected the current executive to represent them.

Not all the people and the policies being put in place were not what was promised.

> Americans are tired of their country being abused.

Which Americans do you mean specifically? And which abuse? That's not specific enough.

> Not all the people

Meaningless. You are implying that unless someone is elected with 100% of votes, they do not represent the People?

> policies being put in place were not what was promised.

Again meaningless. Did Trump make promises specifically to not increase stringency of immigration law? He was elected to make decisions on behalf of the electorate.

> Which Americans do you mean specifically? And which abuse? That's not specific enough.

The Americans who elected the current President. Abuse by by companies and individuals defrauding American workers and taxpayers, while the government does nothing to combat it. The abuse by the government allowing millions of immigrants per year to the detriment of Americans (speaking of "not what was promised", the 1965 INA).

I will take even this pittance at this point.

My point is that the majority of the country is against what Trump and his racist collaborators are doing. Personally, I think racism is bad.

> Abuse by by companies and individuals defrauding American workers and taxpayers, while the government does nothing to combat it

I don't think this is quite correct, but I do agree companies should not by able to abuse immigration law to abuse immigrants for cheap and/or pliant labor. Workers rights should be upheld universally and our country should invest in narrowing our insane wealth gap.

You comment sounds like snark but I understand if you don't know what Obamacare is.

(And I'm not an expert so hopefully people will correct any mistakes)

"Obamacare" was never healthcare for all. It is a GOP healthcare plan that heavily subsidizes private insurance. (Because free markets) And the current affordability crisis is the result of letting the government subsidies that help people pay for their Obamacare coverage lapse.

On a positive note: Obamacare (aka the ACA-PPP) did put some restrictions reasonable restrictions on the terrible things insurance companies used to do. For example, drop customers for "pre-existing conditions", impose lifetime payout maximums, etc.

All house and senate GOP members voted "no" on ACA. Obamacare is a lot of things, but a "GOP healthcare plan" isn't one of those things.

Strangely it actually was based on the GOPs 'Romneycare' that was promoted by The Heritage Foundation.

Qft. Many of the provisions in ACA are direct GOP asks from the bipartisan negotiations around it... before the party decided to unanimously vote against it at the 11th hour.

This is exactly what I was referring to. And I pointed that out to contrast with something more leftist, like government single payer.

what’s your preferred mainstream (or alt) news source?

The Telegraph is okay, but I find GB News publishes the stories that mainstream media chooses to avoid and/or minimise.

Without GB News' coverage of the migrant crisis, the UK public would be barely aware that 110,000 undocumented young men had entered the country in the last three years, many of whom have been housed in hotels at the taxpayer's expense.

And I don't think the Tavistock Center would have been forced to close in disgrace, had it not been for GB News reporting of the dubious and untested medical interventions being made on children there.

BBC Newsnight aired the story first in June 2020.

Also, the BBC first reported on the boat immigration crisis on "BBC South East" regarding small boat arrivals in 2014.

GB News wasn't launched until June 2021, so they can't take much credit here.

Daily Mail is likely to buy The Telegraph, which honestly worries me.

I mentioned this video in another comment but I thought it was informative so sharing here:

clickbait headline (of course) but gives a lot of facts about the proposal and talks about other places they’ve tried it.
