We had experienced serious reductions in carbon utilization in the 2008 recession and COVID restrictions and there wasn't any kind of pull back signal from the temperature record that I can make out. Real global "experiments" that do not back up these extreme positions.
If you really want to make changes it seems to me that the best place to put effort would be pro nuclear rather than cutting industry to the ground. Serious investment in thorium seems a good place to start.
It doesn't even have to be good. It can be a "robbery" where you get professional-grade double-tapped on your front lawn but nothing's taken, or a "suicide" where you hang yourself from a tree whilst simultaneously shotgunning yourself in the chest. The news will just parrot the local cops' PR statement.
Surprisingly, no... I thought I would, but somehow I've avoided this particular transpositional mistake (probably also due to my habit of setting up a ll or la macro for ls -l and ls -a).
That said, I also don't actually put "." in my path, though this is mainly so I can avoid heisenbugs rather than a security concern...
People want questions they have answered instead of ignored. It's like a tone deaf corporation ignoring customer complaints while speaking platitudes about how much they care and how right they are.
Most of those systems sit at idle, when they are on at all. Idle power is not the same as TDP. The idle difference is not so great that it's a big deal.
It's not apples vs apples. Literally and figuratively. The I/O or board features on PC boards will eat power. So you will end up with a 15-30 W idle vs probably 5-8 for the Mac. I doubt the PCIe on the pro does much to the power unless there is an extra I/O die on system, you need active chips to eat power. That is vs Intel.
AMD will add a bunch more watts to the idle number as their multi CCX CPUs just eat more power at idle. You'll be closer to 30-45 W idle. This is a guess, it's widely acknowledged but not really quantified that I've found.
AMD monolithic dies are more in line with Intel. IE the laptop/mini PC line will be nice and low.
The difference is vastly diminished when you add the display that's using 80 Ws. So that's 85 vs 100 W total system power? 15% difference that gets bigger when you peg your processor.
Apple numbers are better in pretty much every way on power. But we're talking a handful of watts. Even at really high power rates it isn't going to add to up much.
Sources: I have a Mac mini and an Intel raptor lake desktop. I take measurements. And I have read various sources. This is my best information.
The reality is that the phone is, and will be, the far more dangerous a vector for porn because of how ubiquitous and convenient it is. The wow factor of this device won't move the needle much here, particularly at this price.
Yes, some will use it for this. Porn use is never satisfied so the addicts that are always looking for bigger hits will find some here. But they are already in it's grasp. Very few to nobody will start it on this device, and that is where the primary battle is located.
Kids, on phones, far away from the supervision of their parents.
> The worst thing about soccer is that no one, outside the ref, really knows how much time is left in the game
This is also kind of a feature. Different kind of suspense. I don't mind it.
> That and flopping in the box to get penalty shots.
I don't like diving, but I can understand it to some extent. The ref misses a lot of the illegal contact.
Grabbing, pushing, pretty much anything you do with your hands to manipulate another player is illegal contact. Shoulder contact is mostly fine and the generally allowed strength and positioning play.
If you have someone doing subtle tactical fouls in the box (very common). The ref will probably miss it because it's hard to see the finer technical contact at 30-40 yards away. Then there's the safety issue. If you're a forward and you get plowed by a defender, it can be quite dangerous. There tends to be a size mismatch favoring the defender.
So exaggerating contact to make sure the ref is aware that it's occurred is a counter to potential defender gamesmanship, or worse.
I've never been able to do it, I keep my feet at even egregious fouls (really good balance) and consequently, despite probably hundreds of fouls in the box, I never get awarded penalties.
But... I still retain a bit of appreciation for the divers as I know what defenders would be like if the threat of it wasn't there.
Another common problem is the huge license keepers are granted with physical contact.
