While that's obviously a bug which should be fixed, having stuff just sitting around uncommitted for days (which is much longer than 10 mins) is an anti-pattern (that I used to fall into).
It was worse because we bailed out the banks, because they were too big to fail, teaching them the lesson that they can do stupid shit and not really pay and consequences. There's no number on that to compare to a different situation, but thems the breaks.
NASA didn't go to moon for the love of science and because it was cool. They went there because Sputnik was an ICBM with a radio for a payload instead of a warhead.
The point is that if we're simplifying LLMs to being "just" a bag of math and can discard because of that, then humans are also "just" a bag of meat and can similarly be discarded. Somewhere in that bag of math, LLMs take on properties that some people find hard to simply dismiss because it is based on matrix multiplication. It's an oversimplification, and if you oversimplify, you lose resolution.
