Actually, I've found taking Wellbutrin has increased my energy level considerably. Though, whether it's a direct effect of the medication, I'm not sure.
There are multiple compounds that effect motivational energy, because that behavior is a consequence of how our brain functions. So things that modify the related circuits will modify the behavior. Plus free will is an illusion, and we don't actually "choose" anything. All of our behaviors are a consequence of the biochemical functioning of our cellular circuits. Quite frankly, the GP has no idea what they are talking about.
If you want to start understanding motivation and reward, simply look at the function of mu-opioid agonism in relation to the NAcc and related dopamine task reward circuitry.
I guess Canada can be lumped with the US in this case :) The whole concept of a “dormitory” is simply foreign here outside of hostels and niche boarding schools. Student housing is mostly normal-looking apartment buildings.
The apathy that accompanies depression. Most days, I can't complete simple chores let alone the important duties required of an adult with a house and family.
My dude, I have been here. I set my "baseline self care" to try and combat some of this.
1. eat enough
2. sleep enough (you're depressed, you need more sleep than normal)
3. read the Bible
That last one is for christian folks. My faith and dependence on God has been the thing that has allowed me to pull through. Self-care comes in close second.
I am one of those people who wants their code to be poetry. Ideas and logic expressed in the simplest most elegant terms. But when I left academia for industry and started working on a bigger project requiring coordination between many dozens of people, I realized that this approach is not conducive to making money. My idealism collided with the complexity of the real world. Software is a mess, but a beautiful mess. I now realize this is not necessarily a reflection of the skill of those who write it, rather the complexity inherent in the users domain.
Poetry is an artistic expression and so it can be, as you say, ideas expressed in simple and elegant terms. But it can also be opaque, complicated, confusing, awkward, and abrasive, and still be great poetry.
When working with others it is all the more important that the code be elegant and simple. That’s the only way to fight the always encroaching complexity.
Y'know I'm worried this will have the opposite of the intended effect. That it will only embolden them further, so they come back stronger. Also feeds into those liberal stereotypes they endorse.
